Of all places in the world, the United States has some of the most beautiful landscapes. No matter what type of environment (e.g., tropical beaches, alpine tundra, desert, old-growth forests) you love to explore in, it’s here. When looking for some beautiful places to visit, start with one of these top five mountains in America to visit this winter.

Grand Teton

Located in northwestern Wyoming is one of the most gorgeous mountain range peaks. Scrapping the sky like a serrated knife, these peaks are the main attraction to Grand Teton National Park. It’s located just 10 miles south of Yellowstone National Park and is home to many species of flora and fauna that have lived in the area for thousands of years. Pick from one out of the thousands of campsites in the area, hike amongst the hundreds of hiking trails, or fish in the world-renowned Snake River for trout.

Mount Rainier

Also up in the northern part of the country is Mount Rainier (also called Tacoma), a stratovolcano in the Cascades in Washington. Its peak is exceptionally prominent in the area and is also considered one of the most dangerous volcanos in the world. Even though it’s a couple of states away from Glacier National Park, Tacoma has the most glaciers of any other peak in the lower 48 states. It’s one of the most technical climbs in the US, with only about half of hikers reaching the summit.

Mount Elbert

Although Colorado has dozens of 14ers, Mount Elbert is the highest of them all. It has a prominence of over 9,000 feet and is almost smack in the middle of the state. The summit trail is about five miles one-way and is extremely steep and rocky in some places. If you are considering hiking here, note that snow is possible year-round, so you should pack some winterwear, like KÜHL apparel.

Denali

Formerly called Mount McKinley, Denali is the tallest peak in North America (third in the world). It’s located in south-central Alaska and reaches over 20,000 feet into the sky. Denali National Park is larger than New Hampshire and is home to various wildlife, including grizzly and black bears, wolves, caribou, moose, Dall sheep, and other smaller mammals.

Going-to-the-Sun Mountain

The final mountain in America to visit this winter is in Montana at Glacier National Park. Unfortunately, some of the roads are closed during winter, as these are some of the most challenging routes to plow in the US. However, there’s still a good chance that you’ll see some wildlife from the car from other parts of the area.

The winter months are a magical time to visit some of the world’s most picturesque mountains. Pick the one that excites you most and plan a road trip with a loved one this winter!
